Phil Wilson

Phil WilsonFor twenty five years designing and making pottery has been the daily rhythm of my life. I work with porcelain for its qualities of fineness durability. I work on the potters wheel for the sense of vitality it lends the clay. I make functional things for the gratification of knowing the immediate pleasure they give to those who handle them.

I begin by forming a slab on the wheel, applying texture or inlaid slip patterns to the surface, then building each piece by hand. My intention is to arrive at forms that have a contemporary freshness, a clay-like softness, and a bit of gesture or movement. The resulting work is fired to 2400°F in a gas kiln for strength and brilliance.

The surfaces are subtle and also nice to touch. The two glazes are ultimately color compatible and compliment the color of food and flowers wonderfully. All the material I work with are the best quality available and absolutely nontoxic. For convenience and practicality everything is microwave and dishwasher compatible. I enjoy making beautiful things and take pleasure in using them. I hope that my efforts bring the same pleasure of handmade quality to the daily lives of others.
